A few weeks ago I wrote about losing my job, which was admittedly a slightly dramatic way to say that my contract with Omnia is now ending. It started to look like I had a lot more calendar availability after September than I had originally planned for.
But that particular situation escalated pretty nicely - instead of having to learn goat herding and move to the mountains (which has been my backup plan for quite some time), I might still be able to find gainful employment in a field I actually enjoy working in. And it turns out that I did not have to look very far.
Background
After I first heard about the efficiency-driven optimizations of organizational structures at Omnia and the employment-related impact that had on my ongoing engagement with the company, I kind of had to stop and think, "What's next for me?" I figured I'd make the most of it and explore what's out there.
While that of course meant me contacting a bunch of interesting companies, many awesome folks also got in touch with me after reading my post - either to mention some cool opportunities, or to just commiserate or brainstorm with me. That was much, much, MUCH appreciated, and it was a good reminder that the Microsoft 365 community is full of people who are genuinely nice, helpful, and willing to share their time and experience.

Anyway - I explored a little, went to some interviews, visited a couple of offices, and eventually ended up in a situation where I had to decide between a couple of dramatically different next steps in my career.
Joining Meltlake
I decided to accept an offer from Meltlake, a Futurice company known for being at home in the deep end of complex and challenging M365 projects (and other stuff, but I'm mostly interested in the M365 side).
It also helps that I have a few friends already working for Meltlake and vouching for the company. And the company sure moves fast - I'll be starting first of October 😅
Why Meltlake?
The role feels quite exciting and just the right kind of a challenge, with plenty of opportunities to grow and hopefully wildly different customer engagements. The chance to spend more of my time directly solving problems in M365 is something I find particularly appealing.
While the company is very remote-friendly and has its biggest presence in Helsinki, its Tampere office (co-located with Futurice) is very cool and my future colleagues I met there seemed great.
In the process of figuring out what to do next, I finally realized I'd really appreciate the possibility of going to the office every now and then!
Yep - you heard me right. Amidst all of the RTO mandates and companies basically just abusing their power to force people to spend their days in cubicles - or, perhaps even worse, hot-seating in a glorified cattle car - I'm willingly looking to return to the office.
But let's not get crazy! Maybe one to two days per week would be nice.
What changes on the blog?
Nothing, probably. If anything, I suspect this move will give me new material to write about 😅
Looking forward
So in short: the cliffhanger from the earlier post now has an answer. I'm looking forward to focusing on what I enjoy doing the most: solving people's problems with tech 😎
Anyway - onwards! Let's see what kind of trouble we can get into next.
